October brings a monthlong celebration of popcorn — one of the world’s oldest, most beloved and most nutritious snack foods!
Popcorn is definitely worth celebrating. It’s a whole grain food with myriad health benefits. Popcorn is also a high-value, shelf-stable agricultural export.
In 1999, then U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman made National Popcorn Poppin’ Month official to coincide with the popcorn harvest in the American Midwest. The popcorn harvest is in fact under way this month at Nebraska Popcorn’s family-owned farming operation.

Every day is a great day to enjoy America’s favorite snack food. That said, there are other popcorn holidays to note on your calendar: Jan. 19 marks National Popcorn Day in America, and April 6 is National Caramel Popcorn Day.
